Malibu
Malibu, Ca, is about 45 minutes from Los Angeles, but is entirely a world apart. Malibu is listed as “27 Miles of Scenic Beauty” and is literally LA’s park and nature preserve. Enormous amounts of the land here has been protected and devoted to local, state and national park land. As I have traveled around the world, I find that the name Malibu is almost universally recognizable, and associated with images of surfing, beaches, sun, fun, and Hollywood glamour. Although exaggerated at times, these are not altogether unfounded images. Malibu has grown up a lot since I was a kid roaming the beach in the Broadbeach neighborhood in 1975, but the lifestyle here is still one of the best you could ask for. In a lot of ways I have spent my adult life trying to get back to my idyllic, beach dazed, childhood, and want my son to grow up in this amazing environment. Serenity and beauty, amazing beaches, surfing, hiking trails, mountain biking, horseback riding, waterfalls, nearly perfect weather 10 plus months a year, great public schools, and a fantastic community of people! I love Malibu all year round but it definitely comes alive in summer. Warmer water, and warm weather, surfing, volleyball, swimming, bbq’s, mountain biking, shopping, great restaurants. All within commuting distance to one of the major cities of the world in Los Angeles, and everything and anything it has to offer. After September 11, 2001, changed the world of travel as we knew it, many of my clients began to refer to Malibu as the “vacation they could drive to”. Not a bad life!
As a 35 year resident, I thought it might be helpful to outline some of the nuances that define a few of our most prestigious beach communities. This does not cover all of Malibu’s amazing beach communities but it will give you a good start. We will cover Carbon Beach, the Malibu Colony, Paradise Cove, Point Dume, Broadbeach Road, and the Encinal Bluffs, as well as briefly discussing, La Costa Beach, Malibu Road, Malibu Cove Colony, Escondido Beach, Latigo Beach, Sea Level Drive, and County Line. As my father always likes to say, “Malibu has City by the Sea, and Country by the Sea”, and everything in between. Please use this guide as a jumping off point, to help you get a feel of which area might best serve your needs. From end to end, anywhere you choose in Malibu is truly a great life!
